Strong opioids like fentanyl are utilized as both an anesthetic and a pain reliever. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, 2 milligrams is considered a lethal dosage. It has a hundred times the potency of morphine and fifty times the potency of heroin.
According to the drug awareness website “Naturally High, “The DEA seized 50+ million counterfeit pills last year and found that 6 out of 10 pills contained lethal doses of fentanyl. Those at risk include casual users, partygoers, experimenters, regular users, and even unsuspecting bystanders who may come into contact with the powerful opioid.”
Illegally manufactured fentanyl is being heavily laced with a variety of drugs, including marijuana, meth, cocaine, heroin, and medications like Percocet, Xanax, and many more. When tablets were tested for fentanyl, 42% of them had at least 2 mg of the drug. Street names for fentanyl are numerous. China Girl, King Ivory, Goodfellas, Murder 8, and more. Dangerous drugs like fentanyl affect everybody. 200 individuals died from fentanyl overdoses every day in 2022; 73,654 people total.
Our school has been directly impacted by fentanyl on several occasions. Anyone could experience it. Watch out for both yourself and your friends. Inform an official if you are aware that someone is selling fentanyl.
