2022 Turner Soccer: New Traditions Begin

There were many ups and downs for the 2022 Bears Soccer Season.

This season the Turner High School Golden Bears JV soccer team ended off with a record of 6-4-2. The JV team unfortunately ended their season with a 0-1 loss against Piper High but had an overall winning record.

The varsity boys’ soccer team ended with a 4-8-3 record. They had very many close games where all the boys put their all into the game but just couldn’t pull away.

The varsity team ended up making it to the 2ndround of the playoffs after a win against Schlagle High 3-1 in the 1stround. The 2ndround of the playoffs the boys faced their biggest change yet. The defending regional champions, Blue Valley Southwest.

Although the boys lost against Blue Valley Southwest with a score of 7-1 the boys fought hard until the end. It was not the way anyone wanted the season to end, and emotions were high at the end of the game especially for our seniors.

This year we had a total of 12 seniors on the team, Luis Navidad, Erick Ruiz, Fernando Melendez, Juan Gallegos, Jose Alvarez, Nathan Ray, Christian Perez, Josh Moise, Juan Delgado, Nick Alvarado, Roman Zepeda, and Brandon. Even though it was some of the seniors first year they all still tried to lead the underclasses and pave the way for them and the future for Turner High School soccer.

The boys were facing good competition the whole season. Also, injuries were a big factor this year especially in our last game against Blue Valley Southwest. But even through the hard times, injuries, yellow cards, red cards, or anything else the guys still fought through the adversity and pushed through.

Even though our record might not say so, it was a good season with a lot of first year players and other players still trying to figure out what position best suits them. Regardless of our record, we still love our Turner High Golden Bears.
